Rider Accreditation

Why do riders at BCC need accreditation?

Track racing carries an element of risk. The biggest risk is rider error, but this can be reduced significantly by skills instruction, practice and repetition.

Accreditation also provides a valuable "peace of mind" knowing that the rider alongside you as you ride round the banking has had proper instruction so both of you can be fast AND safe!

Riders please note – that for your safety, the accreditation process applies to ALL riders riding any BCC training or competition event.

Riders completing the Accreditation process will receive a BCC Competition/Training Licence which then allows them to ride all BCC organised sessions. No Licence, no ride.

Accreditation is not required for sessions that are organised by other Cycling Clubs, or for open British Cycling events.

There are two options for riders depending on their prevision track experience. These are:

  1. Standard
  2. Fast Track (Provisional)

1.    Standard Accreditation

For riders new to track riding, or those with little recent track riding experience.

Training is provided in 4 stages, with each stage taking approximately one/two hours to complete, depending on the experience of the rider.

Group size

For absolute novices, the first session will be limited to a maximum of 5 riders. This will increase in subsequent stages as rider competence increases.

Cost
Total cost of complete accreditation is £20.00, consisting of 4 stages @ £5.00 per stage. A maximum of 2 stages may be taken concurrently, and stages are paid for as they are taken, however some sessions may include skills and techniques from several stages.

Should the Session Manager consider stages need to be repeated to enable specific riders to achieve a particular skill, no further charge will be made (excluding the cost of the session), so riders take as long as they require to complete accreditation.

Successful completion of the Standard Accreditation course automatically entitles the rider to a BCC Competition/Training Licence for that year.

Bike Hire is not included in the cost of accreditation sessions.

The cost of sessions is also additional.

Annual Licence
For subsequent years the cost of an annual BCC Competition/Training Licence will be £15.00, and these are renewable from 1st April.

2.    Fast Track (Provisional) Accreditation

This is for experienced track riders only with their own track bike, who must be able to prove and support previous experience on similar tracks. Those with current accreditation cards from Manchester, Newport or other tracks, are still required to complete Fast Track Accreditation.

Riders will be permitted to ride the session, but their ability will be monitored and accessed over 3 separate BCC sessions by a BCC Session Manager. If at any time the Session Manager considers the rider doesn’t meet BCC normal accreditation standards, then the rider will be asked to leave the session, and will be required to complete the Standard Accreditation process.

The cost of Fast Track provisional accreditation is £10.00, and following completion of the required three sessions, in addition to satisfactory comments from the Session Managers concerned, the rider will be issued with a BCC Competition/Training Licence.

Cost
Total cost of Fast Track provisional accreditation is £10.00, and is payable at the first session.

Successful completion of the Fast Track Accreditation course automatically entitles the rider to a BCC Competition/Training Licence for that year.

Annual Licence
Completing the accreditation process also entitles the rider to a BCC competition/training Licence for that year.

For subsequent years the cost of an annual BCC Competition/Training Licence will be £15.00.
